Success stories
Destination BC
I don’t think I can overstate the impact that growing up in British Columbia has had on my journey toward becoming a freelance photographer and videographer; quite frankly, this wouldn’t be my career—or possibly even a passion of mine—had I not been raised in such an incredible setting. From the very beginning, my spark behind the lens stemmed from the landscapes and wildlife that surrounded me, and that remains my greatest source of inspiration today. I distinctly recall watching a Super Natural BC campaign video titled The Wild Within and feeling invigorated by the cinematography and visuals, which so beautifully showcased the province I get to call home. With this in mind, the opportunity to work with Destination British Columbia was a goal I set early on in my freelance career, and to have fulfilled that milestone over the past few years has been a dream come true.
My working relationship with the provincial tourism board began through licensing; over the years they’ve purchased many of my photo and videos to use in their marketing efforts. It’s been awesome to see these roll out across their social media, website, through regional DMO channels, and even within their brand guideline documents—cementing a strong sense of alignment between my work and their vision.

In the summer of 2025, I received an email asking if I’d be interested in shooting a project for the launch of the Infinite Coast campaign, part of their new Iconics brand strategy. Accepting the role was a more difficult decision than it might typically be, given that the shoot would take place in the fall and my partner and I were expecting the arrival of our first child in early September. After talking it through we agreed it was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up so—with support from her, my family, friends and some flexibility from the wonderful team at Destination BC—we made it happen.
The aim of this shoot was to capture visitors traveling through the Sunshine Coast, by foot, car, kayak, paddleboard, ferry and floatplane. The main deliverables would be a vertical video that would launch on Instagram and also capturing some stills from each unique scene. I was thrilled to be shooting in October as this is one of my favourite times of year along British Columbia’s south coast. There’s a freshness in the air, vibrant fall colours, often fresh snow on the mountaintops, and with the salmon run and whale migrations underway, it’s an incredible time to experience wildlife. That said, the weather becomes much more variable which did present some challenges during this shoot. Fortunately, working with a small crew, we were able to stay flexible and adapt on the fly to helping to ensure that the final deliverables would not be impacted.
“Dolf is consistently professional, collaborative, and respectful in his approach. His work reflects deep cultural sensitivity and a true creative understanding of how to tell stories through both photography and video. He is also a problem solver and extremely adaptable—on our most recent project, he had to deal with poor weather conditions and a short timeline to shoot the seasonal content we needed. Despite this, he delivered high-quality visual content that aligned beautifully with our brand.”

All-in-all it was a uniquely rewarding experience, not only to work with Destination British Columbia, but also alongside a number of small local businesses that help share just how special this place is. Despite having grown up on the Sunshine Coast it was a real treat to experience what they had to offer and view the area through a new perspective. I’ve shared an image from each business that participated in the shoot below 👇
There has always been a symbiotic relationship between my camera and homeland. Over the years this tool has helped me fall further in love with British Columbia, encouraging me to get outside more often and appreciate the experience with a more detailed eye. In return, this province has been, and continues to be, the greatest source of inspiration in my chosen art form. To combine these two passions and call it ‘work’ is something I’ll be forever thankful for. During this particular project I was trying to navigate a new work–life balance (or lack thereof) with a newborn at home. At times, my level of exhaustion bordered on mania. Despite that, the experience—paired with the joy of becoming a dad—left me with a sense of gratitude I’ll be chasing for a long time!
