Success stories
QCL Haida gwaii
QCL, a premier fishing lodge located on the remote shores of Haida Gwaii, reached out to me early in 2022 wanting to build a media library that would support them in a variety of efforts including social media, print advertisement, trade show marketing materials, a website revamp, email marketing campaigns, and even physical prints to hang on the walls of their accommodations. Quite simply, they needed high quality imagery available at their fingertips that would showcase the magic of their first class fishing experience!
This destination is well known the opportunity to land large Chinook salmon, and rightfully so, but it’s much more than just the silver fish that makes the experience so spectacular. Stunning scenery, awe-inspiring wildlife encounters, beautiful amenities, incredible food, and so much more; they offer a level of service that is hard to maintain anywhere, let alone at a heli-access lodge on a remote island off the coast of Northern British Columbia! In order to capture the overall experience we wanted to showcase the resort from a variety of perspectives, shooting from on land, in the air, and even underwater. We made sure that as we documented the expanse of the operation we also didn’t miss the little details that make this place so magical.
“QCL has had the pleasure of working with Dolf for the last several seasons. From the initial consultation, he understood our vision and was amenable to our unique needs as a remotely located operation. Every step of the process was handled with professionalism and expertise but his willingness to go above and beyond to ensure client satisfaction sets him apart in the industry. Our deliverables exceeded our wildest dreams and we look forward to continuing working with Dolf in future projects – It’s truly a pleasure.”
– Creative Direction Team at QCL
The first few trips we really focused on continuing to build and refresh their content libraries, delivering ready-to-use photos and video clips that could be posted as-is or repurposed for a variety of outlets. With their media cache in good standing we then shifted our focus this past season towards providing more cohesive deliverables and telling the story of QCL through video, some of these can be seen below:
Capturing media outdoors in these types of locations means remaining flexible, going with the flow, and taking advantage of whatever Mother Nature throws your way. The imagery you see here would not be possible without the efforts, organization, vision, trust, and support of the entire team at QCL—they’ve been truly remarkable to work with.
What was supposed to be a one-time gig quickly turned into a fantastic working relationship, and I’m really grateful for that. For those who have been lucky enough to visit Haida Gwaii, you’ll know that there’s something magical in the air. It’s a remarkable setting, and I feel so fortunate to spend time here each summer. No trip is ever the same, but they’re all spectacular in their own right and as I refresh this case study I find myself already daydreaming about the sights, scenes, and experiences I’ll get to enjoy this upcoming season.
SOCIAL CONTENT
Modern day social media platforms are content hungry machines!! Although this is not usually the sole focus of my projects all the imagery I create can all be utilized in a variety of manners. Still images can be posted onto social channels as-is, cropped, or combined in order to tell a story. Sharing these moments in time allows viewers to feel a connection to your business and adds a level of professionalism to your page. When it comes to video all my equipment records in at least 4K resolution, which allows for a vertical HD crop that doesn’t negatively impact upload resolution. This means the same great footage that may have been shot to live horizontally on a website’s landing page can also be repurposed to thrive on today’s most popular social platforms!
